|At a sprightly age 80, William Shatner is way into his golden years, so he can finally sound off on what he really thinks about the whole "Star Wars vs. Star Trek" debate. And guess what? In the YouTube interview attached below he basically says Star Trek rocks. Big surprise!
But he does make some valid points. Mainly that Star Wars is actually derivative, since Star Trek pre-dates the Lucas classic by at least 10 years (he's not really sure... he says it might even be 20...) and Industrial Light & Magic was the center of that other saga, rather than the character driven, future-utopian and philosophical stance taken by Gene Roddenberry and his minions.
It's hard to know if he's really being serious because William Shatner has always been a big kidder. Does he even know he's wearing an Affliction t-shirt? Or was it just something he threw on before sitting down to offend exactly half the science fiction nerds in the universe?
It doesn't really matter. He may be forgiven his loyalty to the franchise that made him a living legend. Have a look at the results in the video below.
Since William Shatner has never really opined about this topic much in the past, it's just possible he may win a few converts over from the Dark Side.
Just in case, though, watch out for an epic battle between Starfleet Command and the Rebel Alliance. It could get nasty...
